Your preparation timeline

Here is what to take care of at each point, from booking to after your screening.

Up to a week before

Tell us the medications you take, such as antiplatelet drugs. If a colonoscopy is planned, you choose the bowel prep type now (standard, low-volume or tablet).

The day before

Follow the fasting instructions you were given. Avoid heavy drinking, overwork and strenuous exercise, and get enough sleep.

Morning of your exam

Take nothing except a small amount of water. Be sure to bring your photo ID, and come without driving if you are having a sedated endoscopy.

After your screening

After a sedated endoscopy, we check on you in the recovery area before you go home. We explain how to receive your results on the day of the screening.

Before your screening

Please read this together with the instructions you received when booking. Your doctor's instructions may differ depending on your condition.

Fasting Keep the fasting time you were given for each exam. A small amount of water is fine.
Medications If you take an antiplatelet or anticoagulant medication such as aspirin, please tell us when you book. Depending on the chance of a biopsy or polyp removal, your doctor will tell you whether to stop it. You may take blood pressure medication on the day of your screening with a small amount of water.
Bowel prep When you book, we text you how to take the bowel prep solution. If drinking the solution is hard for you, request low-volume or tablet bowel prep in advance when you book (extra cost).
Sedation You cannot drive yourself on the day of a sedated endoscopy. Please use public transport or come with a companion.
Photo ID Please be sure to bring your photo ID on the day of your screening.
